SEASHORE SURPRISES

Author: Rose Wyler

Illustrator: Steven James Petruccio

Publisher: Julian Messner (An imprint of Simon & Schuster Children's Book Division)

Description: In SEASHORE SURPRISES, viewers find there's more to the beach than meets the eye. Using the book as his guide, LeVar goes beachcombing in southwestern Florida. Then he meets up with two local naturalists to explore plant and animal life at the edge of the sea, including shells, mangroves and more.

Activity Suggestion: Use seashells to discuss and identify compound words related to the sea, such as "sandbar." Have them create seashells out of construction paper and write all the compound words related to the sea they can find on them.
