SPACE CASE

Author: Edward Marshall

Illustrator: James Marshall

Publisher: Dial Books for Young Readers (pb. Dial Pied Piper)

Description: What would it be like to meet beings from another planet? In SPACE CASE, a young boy has this very opportunity one spooky Halloween night. LeVar sends a special invitation to all the aliens that might be watching READING RAINBOW to visit Earth, and shows them some of the Earth's wonders.

Activity Suggestion: Read the book, THE MOON, by Robert Lewis Stevenson (Harper & Row). Discuss with the students the first line of Stevenson's poem, "The moon has a face like the clock in the hall." What does a full moon look like? Pass out black construction paper and colored chalk and have the children draw what the night sky looks like from their window.
